I have worked with young children and their families for over 30 years, with more than 20 of those years in parent education and working with families in their homes. I have provided workshops around the country for both parents and educators and served as a National Trainer with the international parenting program, Parents as Teachers.

As a child development specialist I have worked with families on issues of typical development and day to day challenging behavior, as well as development that present challenges and questions.  I have provided developmental screenings for hundreds of children, and helped countless families navigate the early intervention system, providing strategies to use at home before intervention begins. For the past 14 years I provided these services at Project Enlightenment in Wake County prior to beginning Confident Parenting.

It has been most rewarding to watch parents begin to gain confidence in their parenting, trusting that they do understand their child and can then guide and teach them with peace and confidence.

I live in Durham, NC with husband Don. Together we raised three amazing adult children and love spending time with our three equally amazing grandchildren.

While parenting brings much joy, it is a challenging task as each child brings his own personality, strengths and challenges to family life. While parenting our own three children, we learned that what works for one child may not work for the others. It is a wonderful journey that I delight in sharing with families.

I bring a strengths-based approach, believing the parent is their child’s first and most important teacher. I provide research-based developmental information and support for each family as we partner to set goals and develop strategies. There is no one right answer or magic strategy that will make it all better. When parents can understand the source of a behavior, they can develop a strategy that will effectively teach the behavior they want to see!

Together we can provide the best possible start for your child to be an active, life-long learner and build a happy, connected family!
